July 1973, Dave Grant purchased a 1968
Kenworth cabover and rented a trailer. He
began hauling hay loads to a local feedlot.
Working hard he eventually started buying
and hauling hay to several local feedlots
and dairies. Soon he purchased two more
trucks. As his reputation grew he gained
customers that took him into other markets.
As they started delivering hay to California
and other areas they needed loads to bring
the trucks back to Utah. Building materials
became the perfect solution for return
loads. In July, 1979 Dave R. Grant Hay, Inc.
was incorporated. Soon Dave became the house
carrier for a large insulation company. His
fleet continued to grow out of necessity.
Building materials then took the business to
other areas, which led to other materials.
The hay business was transforming into a
growing and reputable flatbed business, as
well as a hay company. For the first 10
years Dave did the dispatching, hay buying,
mechanics and sales himself, with little
help. David Jr. joined the company after
college and is now the President of the
company. Today, Dave and David run the
company side by side.
